Basque culture instituteLocated in the heart of Uztaritz in the Château Lota (see the map) , The Basque culture institute was founded in April 1990 thanks to the movement of Basque cultural associations and with financial aid from the French government, the Aquitaine region, the departement of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and the intercommunal union for the support of Basque culture (which includes 145 communes). The Basque culture institute takes part in the development of the Basque language and culture in the northern part of the Basque country, supporting the projects carried out by individuals and associations, financially and technically speaking. We work in the fields of training, creation and distribution. One hundred cultural associations are members of our organization. At the Basque culture institute, not only do we promote other people’s projects but we also develop our own cultural actions: for example, we initiated this website about Basque culture and take care of keeping it updated. The Basque culture institute plays an important part in coordinating and structuring the Basque cultural life while helping to improve the relationships between associations and institutions.
