As per their mission statement, The Basque Cultural Institute supports the different sectors of Basque language and culture both financially and technically.
It also qualifies and coordinates projects by researching their coherence and their interest for the general public.

In the Northern Basque Country where linguistic and cultural organization is still wanting, The Basque Cultural Institute fills an important role as a go-between for non-profit organizations and institutions.

Its’ realm of competence :

• promotion of euskara (the Basque language)
• literature, theater and improvised poems and songs (bertsulari)
• audiovisual production 
• dance, music and song
• visual arts
• heritage and environment
• Basque sports
