Basque culture and the webUnpublished recordings by Basque singers and musicians between 1947 and 2000 released on CD"Frémeaux & Associés" recently released a compilation of French traditional music under the direction of Guillaume Veillet. A CD is dedicated to the South-West with recordings from between 1939 and 2006. Amongst the extracts proposed four are from the Northern Basque Country and three are unpublished: the improvisers Mattin and Meltxor in Garazi in 1947 (already released), the young singers Mathieu and Arnaud Etxahun - also recorded in 1947 - ("Adios izar ederra"), an extract from the Souletin mascarade and finally the singer Ganizon Bergara recorded in Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle in 2000 ("Sortu naiz Iparrean"). The website is in Basque only and is certainly worth consulting especially for its iconography and to listen to songs. Basque musicians and the InternetThe TestMedia consultancy from the Southern Basque Country has analysed 146 groups and singers from across the Basque Country to find out about their relationship with the Internet. "Auñamendi", Jean-Michel Bedaxagar's new albumThe Souletin singer Jean-Michel Bedaxagar has just released a new album with Elkar. Mixel Arotze, Amaren alabak, Erramun Martikorena and his own son Johañe Bedaxagar are just some of the guest singers on this album. Jean-Mixel Bedaxagar has chosen traditional Basque songs with the greatest meaning and symbols - "founding" songs - to make up this album. "Ametsaren lana": back from San FranciscoThe young Souletins' journey to California from 19 to 31 August 2009 was successful. They visited San Francisco and the surrounding area before taking part in the Basque Culture Center's Festival on 29 and 30 August where they performed Mixel Etxecopar's "Euskamerikan Artzain" pastorale. Euskal Herria, the Basque CountryThis is an educational handbook issued by the Basque Council on Culture (Consejo Vasco de la Cultura) for the purpose of providing background information on the Basque Country. The Basque Plan for Culture proposed the creation of an educational handbook containing the most important aspects of our culture, and to translate it into the principal languages of our immigrants, the diaspora and tourism.
