Basque heritage

Heritage goes well beyond monuments and furniture, property, land and money left by our ancestors.

It encompasses all know-how (knowledge, techniques, facts and daily gestures), the spoken word (language, myths, legends, place names and all other oral traditions), social practices (games and sports, celebrations, gastronomy) and artistic productions (song, theatre, dance, plastic arts and literature).

Geological specificities and landscapes, ecosystems, the climate, fauna, flora, the wealth of the land and the subsoil are also part of heritage generated by each generation.

Heritage consists of all the above tangible and intangible things which form the basis of and differentiate the identities of human groups.

From archaeology to oral and maritime heritage, the environment and architecture, we provide a foretaste of our rich culture.
